Print Town Group Starts Up Web Press
January 14, 2004

Makati City, Philippines - The Print Town Group, the Philippines’ largest newspaper printer, today announced that it successfully completed installation and testing of its M600 web press, allowing it to service the growing needs of the magazine and book printing industry.

The Heidelberg M600 offset press can run at 44,000 copies per hour – the highest-rated capacity in the Philippines. LexMedia Digital Corp., the commercial printing arm of the Print Town Group, installed the machine at its state-of-the-art printing complex in Binan, Laguna.

“Our expansion project is on time and within budget,” said Dennis O. Valdes, LexMedia President. "Because of the speed and advanced technology of our brand new M600 web, magazine publishers can shorten production times while boosting overall quality."

LexMedia’s Heidelberg press, part of a P500 million expansion program, is the only web press in the country with features such as automatic plate changing, web catcher, and computerized presetting and monitoring systems. Those features reduce make-ready times and ensure consistent quality whether the run is 5,000 copies or 500,000.

Besides magazines and books, the M600 can also print posters, brochures and calendars. Heidelberg built the machine, only the second heatset web in the Philippines, in its factory in France.

Besides the M600 web press, LexMedia also purchased a CD-102 Speedmaster sheet fed press, a Kolbus Ratiobinder, a Muller Martini saddle stitcher, and two Creo Trendsetter computer-to-plate machines. The investment in the brand new equipment provides a one-stop shop for publishers.

Lexmedia currently provides pre-press services to newspapers and magazine publishers. Its Digitial Ad Delivery System (DADS) enables advertisers to submit digital advertising to their printers, shortening production time, reducing costs, and improving quality.

LexMedia pioneered digital workflow and sophisticated computer-to-plate (CTP) technology in newspapers to shorten printing production times. Compared to traditional film pre-press, CTP technology improves printing quality, especially for advertisements, allowing advertisers to "stay digital" from the agency computer until the printed plate.
